anti abortion, anti women

Whoops, that's two spoofs today that I've apparently fallen for. At least according to the source I originally got this from.

Baptists for Brownback attempts to use "Unplanned Sexual Event", or U.S.E., instead of "rape", in their anti-abortion rhetoric.

Sam Brownback is the inspiration for this grassroots campaign called, “Cry USE not RAPE”. We have concluded that the acronym U.S.E. (Unplanned Sexual Event), when used regularly to replace the word “rape”, will remove the stigma associated with this sometimes unpleasant situation. It is our mission to protect the innocent lives of the babies that are part of His plan and eliminate the excuses given by many women when a precious baby just isn’t convienient.

I am stunned. That is one of the most reprehensible things I have ever seen...and I've seen a lot of reprehensible things. The fact that a politician running for President can openly use that sort of rhetoric - and get a LOT of votes for it - is a symptom of the deep-seated misalignment of this nation's ethical compass. Just wow.

Oh, and did you notice in the poorly-rendered jebus graphic, the following:

"III - Repent for having non-spousal relations."

The woman's supposed to beg God for forgiveness because He, in His infinite wisdom, included her violation in His Divine Plan???

Again I think..."If that's God, it's a sin to worship It.".

Actually, I have a lot more respect for those people who want to overturn Roe v. Wade who don't want to make an exception for rape than I do for those that want to find excuses other than the mother's health to allow rape. If you are going to be against taking an innocent life then be consistent and be against taking all innocent life (I'll excuse mother's health on the grounds of self-defense). Trying to exempt rape and incest, though, is being inconsistent with their stated goal of protecting innocent lives.

Changing the term, though, is just silly. A rape should be called nothing else.

Whoops. I still beleive that it's the attitude of many, but apparently Baptists for Brownback is a deliberate parody site.

How can one tell the difference between Brownback's beliefs and satire?

That's why I said "deliberate parody"... [grin]
