Transit and Trails

Transit and Trails, camping and hiking accessible from public transit. Right now looks like all Bay Area, but could be a really cool addition to vacation options; if we knew we could get to the outdoors without renting a car...

That site is operated by the "Bay Area Open Space Council". I doubt they are interested in expanding beyond the Bay Area.

Of course, this is an ideal application for OpenStreetMaps!

Thanks for the posting and the comment! You are correct that the Bay Area Open Space Council has built the site, but the team is interested in taking this to other areas as well. We are focusing on the Bay Area right now as we build in the functionality which will soon include the ability to add in new trips, photos, trailheads and other info. We are already talking to folks in Portland.

We are hooked into OpenStreeMaps and have a link on the site, OSM, for viewing the OpenStreetMaps base map. I am working with them to get in more trail data as well.

Thanks again for checking out the site.

Ryan from the Transit and Trails team.

We have OpenStreetMaps base map on the OSM tab in the upper right of the map for better viewing of trails. We are working with them to get in better trail data which we have compiled over the years.

Everything is built on open source and we would love to bring this to other regions if we can find local groups to collaborate with.

Thanks again for the posting.
