I've been following Tara Firma Farms on Facebook and Twitter, posted what I'd do to one of their turkeys on their Facebook wall (it involved apple cider, juniper berries, and a long stint in a smoker), and they sent me email saying "you won our contest, come pick it up!". So last Sunday I did, met Tara, got a tour of the farm, and came home with a whole bunch of additional stuff and a really good feeling about the place. We'll be getting a lot more stuff there.
Leah Lamb describes a visit to Tara Firma Farms with pictures and video.

Very interesting positive place. Don't look for an end to the factory feedlots
where animals are fast tracked for growth by hormones, steroids and antibiotics
anytime soon. The economic pressures of competition and scale have brought those
places into existence.
Those who are a bit more aware and enlightened are going the organic route,
but the masses are still lining up in the drive-throughs at this moment for their
double quarter pounders w/cheese.
The incidence of diabetes is predicted to double in the coming years, you can
attribute this to increasingly sedentary occupations and lifestyles, high
fructose corn syrup and processed dense calorie foods. Cancer is rampant also,
there is a price to be paid for our modern lifestyle and it's byproducts.
Oh well, garbage in......

Damn, that last comment was mine, sounded like a rant, but maybe it was.
I have 4 brothers, among them they have a total of 6 by-pass coronary
surgeries, and numerous band-aid stent jobs, and a couple emergency
angioplasties.
3 of them are still grossly overweight, I cannot understand the fact that
they did not get the message.
If the demise of this country actually comes about, I would bet in large
part it will come about as a result of lifestyle and toxic consumption,
pigging out on poisons.....
