This makes me think of Gordon Ramsey's show about disasterous resturants he tries to rehabilitate. Once you get by the cussing you see they all suffer the same issues.

  1. The owner either lacks the killer instinct to get the job done, or he has a totally unrealistic idea of what the public thinks of his establishment. that's what's happening in the websites here. 2.The chef thinks he's the next coming of Emeril and Bobby Flay, and he has the owner completely buffaloed. He usually shocked when Ramsey replaces him with the dishwasher, and gets better food.
  2. People see the provision of meals as a work of art or social interaction, instead of a business transaction. The most common problem is the staff doesn't know how to manage several orders at once and get them quickly from the stove to the table. This is also why the websites don't work. If you are clicking on a bistro, you are already considering going there; you aren't just randomly dropping in. The bad websites are like catchy signs over the sidewalk, which the public doesn't need at this early stage of the transaction. They want extra data, like where to park.

A friend owns a sushi bar, the website contains exactly the right information but looks like I designed it (i.e., it sucks and someone blind must have chose the colors).
