I'm bothered by this. It seems it's okay for the police to photograph civilians in public areas, yet it's not okay when civilians photograph police in public areas.

And if this wasn't in Canada, then I'd have to wonder how long until the first person to sue the photographer for violating their "rights to privacy" (or would it be slander?).

Sad.

Best thing that could possibly happen is that these people get identified, get criminal charges, and then get hit with civil suits.

And maybe we can figure a way to archive this site and trot it out next time someone proposes municipal welfare for sports teams.

(BTW: I don't notice the YouTube buffering issue)

I just watched this video as well (or as much as I could stand. Around 4:40 there's a couple girls trying to keep the crowd from trashing their BMW. One of them almost took one the guys down. The crowd ended up trashing the car.

Makes me want to see what a rider for "Acts of Civil Disturbance" would cost on my insurance. Usually this kind of stuff isn't even covered.

Sage advice from the police officer to the dude trying to protect the truck:

"Go out. Go straight out."

I'll keep that in mind if I ever end up in a riotous mob situation.

And anyone else notice that the YouTube video buffers really, really slow on SE but if you go to YouTube it buffers almost instantly?

Yeah, and there are a few places where the photo may not be incriminating. It's not, for instance, clear to me what's going on in this photo of people scuffling at the entrance to a coffee shop, and the bald guy with the sunglasses throwing a hell of a roundhouse in this picture in the Sensible Erection thread looks like he's trying to protect the truck.

Such a clear shot of the guy lighting the fuse on that police car that you know he is going to be identified.

What a great photo album. Who'd have thought the Canadians had that much angst in them.

Although I am thinking I should find a roster of the Vancouver PD and just start plugging in names.
