David Levinson has a neat set of posts on why and how people don't take the shortest routes when they drive. Starting at Transportationist: People and their Paths 1: Do People Take the Shortest Path?.
In Transportationist: People and their Paths 4: Time and its Mis-perception, I'd also like to see some data on modal changes and how that impacts perception of time on public transit.
