Reason #1 why both the fiscally conservative and the anti-abortion folks should be working as hard as they can to make contraception options freely available and socially acceptable: Guttmacher Institute: Births resulting from unintended pregnancies cost Federal and State governments $12.5 billion in 2008.

Although to put that in perspective, it is just, what, half a shutdown?
