Whenever I drive through Yolo County I kinda feel like I'm letting the place down when I stay safe, same and sensible. #YOLO

even California has "fly over counties". The 80,505 freeways are designed for great volume at great speed. Pilot error is certainly a concern. If the defacto speed is 75mph and your safe and sane speed is 55mph the deltaV starts to become incrementally dangerous. I'm guessing lots locals giving the one finger salute?

With over population being what it is, I think the live fast and die young philosophy needs a comeback.

The only time I notice it's Yolo county is that stretch of 80 between Davis and Sacremento, where it never goes over 55MPH anyway 'cause the traffic is dense.

But if we can keep 'em from taking other people with 'em, I'm not averse to promoting "live fast and die young" as an economic and ecological protection strategy...

Yeah it's not perfect but I remember driving classes and "Defensive Driving" and my mind taking that to Mad Max conclusion, I think this happened somewhat with soccer moms driving Hummer SUV battle tanks. My take away that I try to impart to my soon to be driving daughters is "Don't trust that other driver, they are most likely nuts, incompetence, distracted, too old, unobservant and will do something unexpected or irrational (be ready for it)

I think you talking about the Yolo causeway average speed is usually 75-85mph. If you are in traffic there, it's friday 12-6 traveling east or Sunday 12-7 traveling west.

I-5 offers the true Yolo County experience: cruise speed is 80-85 mph, and I rarely have trouble doing 90. I've hit 100 through there a few times. California is always such a relief after slowpoke Oregon. It does slow down a little after you pass Woodland headed toward Sacramento, though.
