So is text email really truly dead? Because even companies I thought of as clueful are only bothering with the HTML version. Sigh.

It appears so. After I bought my Nook, I created an account with Barnes & Noble. After receiving HTML emails almost daily, I went in and changed my email preference to text. Haven't heard a word from them since.

Because they've moved it to hosted tools for people who just want pretty pictures. The hosted tools spit out bad html and it's too much of a hassle for a marketer or a company to request a text version. Plus the return rate on text is low. I like text but most do not.

And the tools are just terrible. so terrible. I have to use ConstantContact for my community orchestra personnel announcements. I used to do text + hand-written html , but it became onerous enough I went to just html a couple of years ago. Zero complaints. Normal folks don't care.
