So is there any glory in "just finishing" a marathon? Considering the Santa Rosa one, just for trying to finish sub 7 hours.

Unless you are willing to dedicate all your free time to becoming a competitive distance runner the only glory to achieve is from the internal satisfaction. Well, that and the ability to display that little white football on the rear window of your car that has a 26.2 in the middle of it. If "just finishing" gives you a sense of accomplishment than what more glory do you need?

Ten years ago I did roughly this 30+ miles as a social walk, with a very long lunch break, in about 10 hours.
I just registered, am going for completing the run before the course closes, 7 hours gun time, so I can get my finisher's medal.

26.2 miles is more distance than I have run in my entire life, cumulatively, so I'll be impressed. I might even have some invisible internet points to award you if you succeed.
