The Guardian: Higher Education Network: Academics Anonymous: ‘My professor demands to be listed as an author on many of my papers’. I suspect that in 500 years we'll look back on modern academia in the same way that we look on the institution of the church of 500 years ago now: as, yes, the custodian of much of the scientific knowledge of the era, but as an extremely inefficient social structure for disbursing and adding to that knowledge.
