A couple of years ago after a deep dive into transportation systems, specifically automobile and highway modes, I came to the conclusion that the best thing we could to do improve transportation in the United States was to abolish the FHWA. The FHWA is apparently taking a small step in that direction, suggesting dropping 11 of the 13 design requirements that yield benefit only on higher speed roads, and replacing those with the judgment of local engineers. Hooray!
