Stingray records call content too

You probably already thought this was the case, but Turns Out Police Stingray Spy Tools Can Indeed Record Calls.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California obtained the documents (.pdf) after a protracted legal battle involving a two-year-old public records request. The documents include not only policy guidelines, but also templates for submitting requests to courts to obtain permission to use the technology.

I should probably start using RedPhone with people. I'm already using TextSecure, and you should either be using TextSecure (Android) or Signal (iOS) for your SMS app.

Discussion last night as DC323.org meeting was about getting "Gift Visa Cards" fairly anonymously to pay for cell phones/minutes, VPN's, etc.. Truck Stops got high marks for taking cash for a prepaid visa card without collecting any personal info.
