After screwing around with various home-built surveillance cam solutions, I just installed a Ring doorbell plus 2 cameras. Still want something better, but that'll do for now.

I simply won't do stuff that's tied to a cloud. The company disappears and all of a sudden your hardware is useless.

Yeah, I had to approach this with a "I'm buying 2 years worth of security" approach. And harden the WiFi network that it's attached to, because I've added an additional potential point of malicious entry.
