Unidentified number

Hello Dan....

Me:

Hi! I don't have this number in my address book. Who is this?

Unidentified number

it's Chloe from Facebook....You don't remember

I go search my Facebook contacts... I do have a lot of FB friends I've never met because of square dancing and other stuff, it could have slipped my mind, but nope. So I ignore it for a few days. Then:

Hello Dear...

Hi

Hello,how is your weekend???

Good morning Dan

Hey

By now we're at October 24, almost a month later, and my phone registers a missed call at 0:43 PDT, this text is at 02:11:

Hello,Good morning Dan

So it didn't wake me up, but whatever, I'm somewhere between amused and pissed off. Pimused? Amissed? So I respond:

Calling me at 0:43 local time is beyond the pale. Texting me at 2:11 similarly. Do not do that again. Unless you can explain where I would know you from, cease contacting me.

Unidentified number

We are so sorry Mr Dan.....this is an authorized number from the social networking website Facebook that why we are contacting you....

We are the Facebook claiming department service...

Hello Mr Dan....this is the Facebook claiming department we have an information for you please when you get this text us back....

Yeah. right. But now it's kinda amusing.

If you are from Facebook you can message me there.

Unidentified number

This is authorized number from Facebook that why we are in contact with you....

Your number is linked to your Facebook account that why we are able to contact you....

do you understand

Yeah, I understand, but it's kinda trainwreck fascinating at this point:

Right, so that means you should be able to contact me via both channels to confirm your identity. My name and number are very public; it's not hard to guess that I have a Facebook account, or even which one it is.

Unidentified number

What are you saying Mr Dan??? All our subscribers around the world their names, numbers or emails are on our database perhaps you have an account with our social networking website Facebook..do you understand we didn't just got your from anywhere....they are on our Database and I want to inform you that you aren't the only one been contacted...they are 300 of you (subscribers) of our social networking website Facebook been contacted right now.... Unidentified number

Mr Dan you don't need to be confused about anything.....I know you have doubts but we gonna clarify all your doubts....ask us anything you don't understand...

Really... Okay, the first thing I don't understand is...

So what is your reason for contacting me?

Unidentified number

Okay...we wanna inform you that you were selected among 300 Facebook users, by a random ballot system. That's why we are in contact with you.....

And You have emerged as one of the lucky winner selected from the 300 subscribers of our social networking website Facebook which you will be awarded with the sum of $300,000.....

Unidentified number:

Okay, let's see where this is going...

So what action are you asking me to take?

Unidentified number

You should trust Mr Dan....if you really want to claim your winnings with us....

You don't need to be suspicious about anything because you aren't the only one been contacted...they are 300 of you(subscribers) been contacted and 280 have gotten their winnings three weeks ago....

Funny how I never get a direct answer, hey?

I repeat the question: what action are you asking me to take?

Unidentified number

Okay Mr Dan we want you to claim your winnings with us....

And if you wanna claim your winnings you gonna need you to provide us with some information about you.....this is just a procedure you must undergo so your winnings don't land in a wrong hands...you will provide us with the following information so we can process your winnings certificate immediately if you are interested in claiming your winnings with us...

You gonna provide us with these following information do you understand...your full Name:Residential Address (Not P.O Box Address): Phone number: Occupation: Sex: Age: Marital Status: Country of Residence: Contact Email Address: annually income: To make things easy provide the information about you so i will forward it to the Facebook head office for the re- confirmation your identity and processing of your winnings certificate immediately...

All of which is easily, of course, gotten via Google. So

Bwahahahaha!

No.

Unidentified number

What's the problem Mr Dan....

Inserted in is a picture that Tineye identifies as from https://www.itbusiness.ca/slid...ebook-canadas-new-toronto-office called Facebook-Slideshow-06-IT-Department.jpg . Unidentified number continues:

I'm Mr Charles Claudio I'm the one in charge of you claiming your winnings with us....the information I asked you to provide is what we gonna use to process your winnings certificate...

You don't need to be suspicious or afraid of anything I can explain why we need those information about you....if you don't understand...

Hello Mr Dan, are you still with us...

Yeah, it's kinda getting silly, and there's another missed call at like 1:47 AM, so I reply

Least competent scammers ever. But seriously: calling and texting in the middle of the night takes this from amusing to annoying. Stop it.

Unidentified number

Okay Mr Dan....I apologize...we needed attention urgent to process your winnings certificate....

do you understand Mr Dan or you don't believe us...

So I've got the picture, I know where they'd be if the picture was legit:

I'm sorry, which city did you say your Facebook offices were located in?

Nope, not taking that bait. Dang:

I never mentioned the city where our office is located in conversation...if I should ask why this question

I don't know what makes me respond, but at this point I'm kinda sorry for them:

Because you have sent information that suggests a very specific place, and your message timing does not correlate with that information. (Not to mention opening by using the name Chloe, suggesting I should know who you are, then sending me a picture of someone male, and claiming to be officially from Facebook but not using the standard Facebook SMS origin code)

In short: you are a bad liar who can't keep stories straight, even in this short thread.

And that picture was taken in the Facebook Toronto offices.

Unidentified number again:

What are you saying Mr Dan...please don't try to insult me ... I'm just doing my job if you don't believe about your winnings it okay....you aren't the only that had this wrong impression...

I told you earlier this is the Facebook claiming department not the Facebook head office.. but you don't seem to understand Mr Dan...

Mr Dan, are you still with us...we gonna clarify all your doubts...you can ask anything you don't understand....you have to believe that your winnings is real... Alot of our winners just got their winnings....Mr Dan you don't have any doubts about this.....

This is Mr Martin from Cleveland, Ohio...one of our winners....we just delivery his winnings to him yesterday.....

The picture pops up in Tineye as taken from a "for sale" site in El Salvador...

Reverse images search reveals that "Mr Martin in Cleveland" looks astonishingly like a bad Photoshop of a guy selling stuff online in El Salvador.

Unidentified number

What are you trying to say Mr Dan....

it's seem like you don't believe in your winnings...I know this may come like a big surprise to you..Mr Dan if you having any doubts or misunderstanding you can talk to us...we will kindly answer all yours questions and clarify your doubts...I know this may come like big surprise to you...but that what our social networking website Facebook is all about....we told you we are using this program to appreciate all our subscribers around the world..and believe me this is not free...you should consider yourself lucky and greatful you were luckily selected among the 300 subscribers who will be awarded with this huge sum of money from more than one billion users out there using our social networking website Facebook...
