The thread is on content-partnering for authors, but applies to almost everything. An excerpt: RT Captain Awkward

Bullshit-piercing question list again:
- How much money are you offering?
- What is the deliverable you expect?
- Who owns the rights to that deliverable (and spinoff/related content) and for how long?
- If this doesn't work out, how do we handle that?
2:
- Can you describe what you'll be doing for the project and how(with actual numbers)?
- Can I talk with other people you've worked with on similar projects (about actual numbers)?
- Could I see a draft or sample agreement so I know exactly what I'd be getting into?

they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,

if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
