From a Mastodon discussion, I learned about kakashibu fermented persimmon tannin dye, useful for both woodworking and for textiles and leatherworking. Here's a commercial vendor for kakashibu, and Instructables has a How To Make Kakashibu, and next persimmon season I'm gonna try grinding up a bunch of green persimmons, boiling them with a bit of water (maybe steaming? some sort of sterilization), tossing in some yeast, throwing them in an airlocked jar for two years, and seeing what I get out....
