Ask MeFi thread about ChatGPT hallucinating a book in answer to a question (with various commentary about it getting it right in other circumstances, and pros and cons of the approach)
I'm reminded of a BBS discussion in the pre-Internet days, where a participant created a fake citation out of a slightly plausible author and some other kinda plausible details, and it took several others (including me) a bit of time to conclude that it was, in fact, bogus.
