If there is a single theme of NETFUTURE, it is the need for us to maintain a wakeful relation to technology. Assaults upon our attention are decisively important because our consciously directed attention is the only point at which we are fully awake. Attending to something is what it means to be awake to it. And we can only attend in this sense to one thing at a time. Net Future #75, more wonderful notes on the encroachment of technology.
