QOTD, regarding Kevin Smith's tribulations with GLAAD over Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, in the message boards, babka said:

BTW, I caught the movie tonight. It REALLY SUCKED! If you can imagine two hours of just Jay and Silent Bob... I really liked Clerks, Mall Rats, and espescially Dogma, but this really stank.

I thought we had agreed to chalk it up to sobering up too soon...it had some moments but I really believe it should have been called "Kevin Smith's Contractual Obligation film" and/or "How to kill some pretty kewl cameo characters"

Maybe I should have sobered up more before I made that post - but I still think it reaked. It did have a couple good moments - the light saber fight with Mark Hamill was almost worth the other 90 minutes of the movie. Ok, maybe it wasn't that good. The problem with this movie is that Jay and Silent Bob's scatelogical humor served as a distraction from the more substantial plots in the prior movies. The movie completely lacked that substance.

You went to a Kevin Smith movie and were disappointed with the abundance of dick and fart jokes?

I just caught Chasing Amy on TV. It reminded me both how good of a writer/director Kevin Smith is and how bad Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is.

Chasing Amy had all the plot depth of other View Askew films with just the right amount of cameo by Jay and Silent Bob.

I still have not forgiven him for Mall Rats....but he may have "one up'd" himself with Jay & Silent Bob...

I think I may have found Kevin's apology...Vulgar looks promising

Finally sawe Jay & Bob, hmmmmmm. There were parts where I laughed. There were parts I tried to crawl under the seat. There were parts were I smiled at the inside joke. This reminded me of Pee Wee big adventure. After all was said and done I didn't feel like watched a movie so much as a montage of saturday night live skits. I'm still glad I saw it <shrug>

I'm going to go see it just 'cause the people who didn't like it were the people who didn't like Mallrats[Wiki]. I thought Chasing Amy[Wiki] and Dogma[Wiki] were good movies, but of the Kevin Smith movies I've seen, I think Mallrats[Wiki] is the best, so hopefully Jay and Silent Bob[Wiki] will hit all the right spots for me.

Yes, I have not aquired a taste for Mallrats yet...there are scenes that I loved but as a whole....ahhhhhhhh, it was better than Jay & Silent Bob tho...<groan>

Well, I just saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back[Wiki], and yes, if you didn't like Mallrats[Wiki] you won't like Jay and Silent Bob[Wiki], but...

Well, I thought it was a perfectly watchable movie. I laughed. I stayed through the credits. I'd probably even go back into the movie biz if I thought I could get a "Mewes Wrangler" credit.

There may be an opening...didn't he just get busted for heroin?
