The Original Macintosh

I originally saw this on Borklog, I think it showed up on /. a few days later but I can't find it now, but if you're an old software developer, this is a must read: Folklore is site full of tales of the development of the Macintosh[Wiki]. Sometimes I lose perspective, and forget what it was like when memory cost money, when critical functions were in RAM, when we worried about video pages and direct memory access. Heck, some of those days weren't even that long ago. Still, as I occasionally find myself thinking "No problem, we can do that hash table in less than a megabyte" it's fun to have a reminder of the days when bytes mattered.
