Colorado to use inmate labor on farms because immigration crackdowns have resulted in a labor shortage.

This is hilarious - especially when you consider that the proponents of tougher immigration laws cast illegal immigrants as "dangerous" criminals. So, instead of some impoverished Hispanic who's only real crime was trying to make a living, we'll have real murders and rapists working the fields!

For those who aren't aware, many Colorado counties are home to private maximum security prisons - which make up the lions' share of the county's tax revenue.

Well, see, it's great: Now we can put those illegal immigrants in jail, and then they'll work in the fields for $.60/day rather than making a market competitive wage and contributing to the local economy.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave.

I like the idea of putting convicts to work, but for 'state' needs, tradionally: manual labor for road and public works. I'm sure the farms aren't paying the prisons $0.60 per day per inmate. Wonder who's getting what split, specifically: how much do the people who voted for tougher immigration laws get?

Open border advocates are simply up to their old tricks. Just can't live without those poor, hard working Mexicans who do the jobs no one else is willing to take. Yeah, and I've got a bridge to sell you. The fact of the matter is this is all about supply and demand. If farmers can't make a go of it because labor is too much does that mean Americans will starve? Of course not. What a bunch of implied rubbish. Americans will pay more if they have to. Who knows maybe they'll even have to pay a going wage to a real American.

It sounds like this is the work of the prison guard's union, because there'd have to be guards watching these inmates.

Thought of the day (passed along to me), and somewhat relevant:

"The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration."

Maybe we should give the first crack at these jobs to indigenous Colorado Indians?
