What appears to be a wonderful new book, Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children from Sex is sparking an angry firestorm among conservative and religous groups, who have denounced it as "evil". They have also been calling for the firing of the individuals at University of Minnesota Press who agreed to publish the book - after it had been turned down time and time again by other publishing houses.

A more detailed story at the New York Times (registration req'd). I also saw some of Bill O'Reilly's fevered rant on the book last night. Among other things, he refused to give the name of the author because he was so "disgusted". For her part, I think Jocelyn Elders (who wrote the forward) did a horrible job defending it - but then I'm coming to expect that from the people that are chosen for his guests.

I made a bookstore run and put it on order last night. Ingram still has it back-ordered, so I expect it'll be a little later than Tuesday, but I should get it as soon as it comes out.
