Well, the folks at http://www.webstandards.org responded to my link yesterday, so I gave 'em another chance. I went to their site with Lynx and Netscape 3.0 with JavaScript turned off, and it's much better. Link styles aren't totally hosed, they have underlines and are therefore recognizeable. I don't know what it is about what they're doing, but that site looks a whole lot better when not viewed with Netscape 4.5. Anyways, sorry, guys. People who just don't get it: http://www.webstandards.org/ has lots of Java script to obscure the usual web interface, font specifications, and, to top it off, no content (which is fitting)... "Fighting for Standards in our Browsers". I don't mean to be like a cynic or anything, but do you guys realize what happens if someone with a personally configured browser hits your site? Total chaos.

Well, given that I pissed off the folks at http://www.webstandards.org I figure I should post the URL of the people who do have a clue: http://www.anybrowser.org/

People who just don't get it, redux: The folks from http://www.webstandards.org/ sent me e-mail last week complaining about my treatment of them, and I relented, gave them a cursory once-over with Lynx and Netscape 3.x, and apologized based on the fact that they weren't officially open for business. Well, now they are, and all of my original complaints still stand. "onMouseOver"s, gross styles, and to top it off, rather than taking a stand as content developers, they're whining to the browser coders. Log into the clue server and issue a "GET" command, guys! The people actually putting out content aren't having problems here, it's only the over-steroided graphics designers trying to make up for the lack of any real meaning in their sites.
