Just wanted to point out this picture of a train around a Christmas tree because that looks like an American Flyer S-gauge, which is a slightly more rare thing than the usual Lionel O-gauge train. And because the train I've got from my Dad's childhood is remarkably similar.

That is an American Flyer, #290, and it belonged to my Dad when he was a kid. Not only that, but it still works (although it was difficult to get a decent shot if it moving). I even have the original manual that came with it.

Down in the basement I have two steam engines, one is my Dad's original die cast beauty, one is a later stamped thingie that someone pulled from a trash pickup outside New York City, and a diesel engine of some sort that was also my Dad's. The latter two are currently wired for an AC system that American Flyer apparently used for a while, but I know I've seen the diesel run in my lifetime, and the nicer steam engine ran last year.
One of the projects I want to do in the new place is a shelf on which I can set up a bunch of track and all the rolling stock. I may not have the time or the space to do a layout up right, but trains need to be visible, at the very least.
