Almost half of US cellphone calls will be scams by next year, says report:

The percentage of scam calls in US mobile traffic increased from 3.7 percent last year to 29.2 percent this year, and it's predicted to rise to 44.6 percent in 2019, First Orion said in a press release Wednesday.

75% of all calls I receive are easily spam.

Huh. Set default ringtone to silent. Set ringtone for everyone in address book to something. Also send any calls from my NPA-NXX directly to voicemail, since it’s a cellular-only "exchange" and none of my friends are on it.

It’s been working for me for years. I started it about the time I shut off my landline, which had two months of every call to it had been spam. Yeah, there may be more people trying to get through, but the number who actually bother me remains near zero. And almost none leave voicemail.

Yeah, I suspect the ratio of spam calls is even higher for those of us who prefer text or other messaging services to phone.

If I could set my ringtone to "silence" I would have.

Now I'm getting robocallers leaving partial voice mail messages. Sigh.

I spent a buck to buy a ringtone of silence. Worth every penny.

I also bought a 45-minute "song" of silence to put as the alphabetically first song on my iPhone so that will be the thing that starts auto-playing when I plug my phone into my truck to charge.

Thanks, Dead Steve Jobs.
