That link immediately below only has a teaser if you're not a Salon Premium member. As the "for pay" sites on the web proliferate, there will probably be more links to sites that cost money. Already some people like free registration sites like the New York Times to be noted, anyone have feelings on this? Despite their declining standards, Salon seems to be popular enough that in my circles everyone's tossed 'em $30.

Well, I'd have to say that I have not, and my preference would be for such content to be pointed out as a normal courtesy. Salon is worth reading, and I'm perfectly willing to let them advertise at me (even their pop-ups are less annoying than, for instance, the godawful X10 camera ads that Tribune Co newspaper sites are running these days). I'm just not quite feeling that they're worth $30 these days. (Last year, yes, but they've cut staff and sections twice since then. Reality bites.)
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your
comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel
they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
