You may have already seen it, and it's probably urban legend anyway, but Ziffle passed along the heartwarming tale of school kids making cactus planters.

You will find the official snopes.com debunking of this one here, along with a link to an online source for a larger, similar planter with a much more massive, um, cactus.

You can usually find those cactii at Home Depot. Many times they have a big red bud at the tip!
