I mentioned talking with the guy who built the solar powered bed last year at Burning Man![[Wiki]](/adbanners/lookingglass.png)
. At the time, along with recommending Innovation First motor controllers, he'd mentioned that the only arc welders he thought worth buying were from Miller. Yesterday Kiki forwarded her "favorite on-line porn": Miller's TIG welders, specifically the Syncrowave 250 DX, although in conjunction with a torch to pre-heat, the Millermatic 135 MIG setup looks like it might fit my needs, and might even (barely) run off my Honda EU2000 for portable pedal-powered vehicle fabrication.

So.. should the BM project be: I'll bring a welder, hacksaw and such, and we all bring some sacrificial bicycles and see what we can make? A People Powered Bus ala http://www.didik.com/people.htm (no pictures, real?)
After playing around, I am considering making my old Huffy into the seed parts of a recumbant bike. Mine is not a Miller, but its a very nice Campbell Hausfeld 105 Mig/Flux. I like it, but I need practice with Aluminum.
I'd like to know someone that really uses stuff like:

I have a really nice genset.. but it's far from portable :)

Old old bikes, of mild steel, are really easy to work with. If you have something with a derailleur hub, a kid's BMX bike, and another frame for steel, it's fairly easy to make a recumbent.
And hey, if we could borrow your generator and air conditioners for the week we could cool the whole damned camp...

Hmm.. Got an older Trek BMX bike.. and they are plentiful in this neighborhood as junk. I'll have to see what I can kludge up. I made a front bumper and grill for the Bronco, a fun bike can't be any worse.

Otmar turned his VW bus into a stretch. The web pages says he's also looking at turning it into a hybrid by driving the front wheels with electrics, he's driving the back wheels with an engine from a Jetta. He should be camping at Firetown (Where Todd and I are camping, and we're making space for Meuon) if you want to ask questions...
