Senator Rick Santorum, R-PA:
"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual
[gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy,
you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you
have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything".
To this end, we dedicate ourselves.

It's strange, I find myself in agreement with the "you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultry" part of his analogy but I'm coming to a completely different conclusion than he is from the analogy. Between consulting adults incest and adultery is not the business of the state. Personally I may find incest and adultery to be offensive behaviour but it shouldn't be made criminal behaviour by the state.
The right to bigamy or polygamy that he is trying to equate with consensual sex, well, the equation fails. Bigamy and polygamy refers to marital arrangements and marriage is a legal contract which is a state establishment. The Texas case before the Supreme Court will have no effect in the way the state treats polygamy.

Like most of us here (I think - at least, with the opinions expressed so far), my initial reaction was; "Yeah. What's your point?" What I find sad - and frustrating - is that the reaction lends a certain implied legitimacy to Santorum's statement (and resulting conclusion).

There's a storm abrewin' over Santorum's comments, much like the one that tossed Trent Lott from the GOP power-structure last summer.

Here's another view on the subject.

And I think he's dead on. (Except for his personal view of sibling-sibling couples.)

Mark Morford has "...recreated what the senator might say were he, as we imagine he regularly is, heavily sedated on Xanax and Nyquil and cheap-ass Cabana Boy rum ..."

Nerve has a pretty good write up on Santorum's comments. Mainly regarding the privacy issue implicit in his statements, which almost everybody [in the press] seems to be missing.
