You have to wonder about using fiber cable for field deployment in hostile situations, very easy to break.

I read once in a networking professional mag an anecdote from a division's sysop. He mostly networked the various tents of the headquarters company, where the general and his staff worked, so they weren't right at the front line. His problem was when somebody drove a light tank over the fiber....
