Over at Not Safe For Work there's an interesting screed against safewords. Worth a read for anyone who likes to play in dangerous spaces:
The BDSM community tries to fetishize safety, and deifies safewords and
mantras like "Safe, Sane and Consensual" as if they were some kind of
replacement for personal responsibility. At worst, safewords are a PR
stunt, a way to try and convince ourselves that what we're doing is
softer and fluffier than it is.
