If you're into photography, just go read this MeFi entry about the CHDK firmware for Canon cameras. The CHDK firmware for many lower end Canon point-and-shoots has a raw mode, adds various histogram features, but also has a scripting setup of some sort to do automatic bracketing for infinite depth of field or high dynamic range shooting, and a time lapse mode.

Wow! I've been waiting for this!
I just checked the KAP Discussion Board and discovered that it moved on me. I was using an RSS reader and thought it odd that the board was so inactive! They've been actively exploring CHDK for a few months already including James Gentles who already has worked up an interface between an RC servo connector and USB for RC control of a CHDK-enabled camera shutter.
I think it's time to put all my Olympus gear on eBay!
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your
comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel
they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
