Cool idea: Position correcting router (YouTube video) does fine computer control of a shape while you do the coarse control by hand.

Last time I experimented with the repeatability of optical mouse positioners (which, admittedly, was back in the early naughties), they weren't repeatable enough on any material I could come up with to use in a system like that.

They should use an optical-mouse-type positioning system rather than relying on those stickers.
