Yeah, I think even fairly left Democrats think that this was a lesser of the evils election. It'd be nice if we could get Obama to take civil liberties and due process seriously, and maybe in a second term he will, but there's lots of room for improvement.

On your friend working on an escape plane: I think Obama's been a fairly mainstream Republican president. At least by what it's historically meant to be Republican. The healthcare plan is taken straight from earlier Republican proposals. The continued military spending has been Republican. Really, the only Democrat things he's done has been accept the inevitable changes in gay rights and, to a lesser extent, drug policy, after those changes have already occurred.

So, 4 more years for Obama. I have one friend who thinks it's the end of America, and is working on an escape plan.

For myself, I'm not happy Obama won; he's a shmuck, and I strongly dislike him and his policies. But I'm also glad Romney lost, because he's a shmuck, and I strongly dislike him and his policies.

And I'm pretty angry that we're essentially forced to choose between them.
