Bwahahaha! Yeah, I just ran "top" to see: Freakin' procmail (on a machine that doesn't use it) is taking more memory than an active Emacs session. In resident memory. Hell, something called "gpk-update-icon" is claiming 9.8m resident memory, and the "clock-applet" process is taking as much memory as the damned window manager.

Though I'm beginning to suspect that although Gnome and Firefox seem to be sucking an inordinate amount of CPU time, much of the issue with this Dell machine that is my desktop is probably wonkiness with a RAID controller.

I'm a long-time emacs user. I still get amused when the little'uns go "emacs? isn't that bloated?". Then I glance over at how much memory and other resources their terminal apps are using compared to this now humble petite little editor. Don't even get me started on Xcode.

"Wasting your computer's resources?" A few years ago, I noticed that Oracle Enterprise Server used less resources than Tweetdeck. We've already crossed the point of no return...
