I think there's too much light pollution most places in America. Either that, or your definition of "middle of nowhere" and mine differ by a little... Also, the moon can obscure a hell of a lot.

I have spent some nights way out in the middle of nowhere and the sky did not look like that. Perhaps there's too much light pollution everywhere in America, I dunno, but I think there's some serious wishful thinking going on here.
