As I just typed 'fdisk' into skype, which turned it into 'frisk' and I am thinking modern spell correction should have a setting for what I am/do. ie: Geek words get added to the vernacular/disctionary and have priority.
If I were law enforcement, 'frisk' should replace 'fdisk' but as a geek, fdisk is also valid.
Or do I just not know where to look for such things?

Google's already doing a bunch of this. I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to set up something in your favorite NSA monitored chat or messaging client to look at what the conversation has been about so far and adjust the likely replacement dictionary.
I too ran screaming from autocorrect for many years, but I haven't broken down and bought a hard keyboard yet for my new phone and am trying to get used to Swype, and am strangely intrigued.
I've also learned to proof a lot more.

It didn't take me long before I turned autocorrect off entirely; I know how to spell, and the few typos I make are easy to decipher. Better to be genuinely embarrassed by a few minor mistakes than to be faulted for the mistakes my equipment makes for me.
