A little history of the firebomb, from the era when incendiary devices designed to kill and maim as many civilians as possible were deployed by the good guys.

The high ground is only taken when you don't want to race the other guy to the bottom. We've deployed atomic bombs, napalm, agent orange, incendiary devices, and probably worse including biological/chemical weapons (I'll count our military on shore leave as a biological weapon, decimating populations with diseases).

Americans are good at war.. Our government is excellent at exactly two things: Tax Enforcement and Killing (other) People. It is almost as good at building roads and public infrastructure.

Rather than attempting to lead the world down a path by force, we should be setting examples others aspire to. Economic/Social incentive/disincentive is a decent tool, force is a last resort.
