I'm thinking I could set one of these on a water tower and send back information like level and line pressure back to a pumping station for a lot less money than what is being used now. It could also be used for monitoring of transfer pumps for waste water or any pipeline application.

See my recent post about bringing back NNTP and UUCP for privacy reasons. With a bunch of these, TLS and UUCP you could create a darknet with no connection to any existing communication infrastructure.

Sweet. For less than $150 USD, That's a useful device. With some "store and forward" or "mesh" networking in that Raspberry Pi, you could cover some territory.
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine, if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave such ridicule in place.
