I've been in Guyana doing server upgrades, and realizing how much even I have become used to mega-bandwidth. Its taken 3 days to get a Redhat server updated, all the cpan modules and other things needed installed. And I carried a lot of RPM's on a USB drive with me. My average download is under 20kB/s.
For those of you developing web apps for wide use: be kind to the rest of the world.

I've been thinking about this recently, how the pitiful upstream bandwidth on my ADSL2+ line is more than six times what we started Chattanooga On-Line with, how we casually fire up multiple YouTube windows...
...and how sometimes all I really need is a few bytes per second, but from somewhere not wired. I also wish I could find other people in my neighborhood interested in building line-of-sight dark nets with point-to-point WiFi...

if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
