Raid 1 = Drive Mirroring = Extends the time that IT staff respond due to complete drive failure(s) and system outage.
I went to the 2nd location of system today to find the backup database server blinking merrily "drive failure".. probably been that way for months.

You assume the email system works, or the email goes to a person that cares... I'm thinking about a compressor powered air-horn.
What I really need is a server cabinet with an attending robot to do the things I couldn't talk the people here through. Insert CD, Bang forehead against keyboard.. that kind of stuff.

All failure modes should email the person actually responsible for fixing the system, and their immediate superior. Upon failure, and then at least once a day thereafter until the alarm is silenced.
