World's longest board

2014-09-12 22:42:45.703717+02 by Dan Lyke 3 comments

The world's largest wooden board, a 46.53 meter long piece of Doug Fir cut from a forest in Kashubia Poland, and then ripped by hand:

We organised technical, cultural and medical assistance for the participants and... fresh supply of beer. In terms of beer, cutting 1 metre of the board cost 54.3 litres of it... The board was cut traditionally with a two-men saw, just like our ancestors did it.

"door hanging" is part science and part art. When I get it right, it's beautiful. :) And it can be easier with two people.

Yes. This Saturday (while Charlene was off doing CERT training, another way to pull our community together) I got a call saying "I've got some questions about hanging a door", which turned into me tossing a bunch of tools into the truck and a door hanging. And a bag of figs and tomatoes.

It was kinda like Burning Man, serendipity turns into serendipity. Need more of that kind of neighbors pulling together.

In some ways, it's a silly stupid thing to do. Which makes it perfect to bring a community together. A lot of pride in that project. We all need more of such projects. :)
