TEDx video: Dr. Sarah Hallberg: Reversing Type 2 Diabetes starts with ignoring dietary guidelines. A little bit more anecdote-ish than good medicine should be, but perhaps a good starting point for further investigation.

Ben, I am a Type II diabetic. Going "vegan" works in the same way (for me) that fasting does,
I'm don't get enough calories and I crash (low sugar), hard. Then I have other problems. Every
once in a while I get to take a "down day" or "two" and fast, with no caffiene. It's a good reset,
and helps my long term stability. But I monitor my blood sugar carefully on those days, can't
drive and it's best to not try to be sociable. Done the vegetarian thing and vegan thing in
spurts. It's a good thing for me in spurts, after 4 or 5 days, I crash.
The problem with diabetes is it's a tightrope walk and you have to listen to your body,
Everyone responds differently, but as a general rule: proteins and veggies (and some fats)
good, carbs and sugars bad. Exercise more.
Just took a nice hour walk downtown today.. Awesome. Had a chicken bisket for lunch..
awesomely good, but very bad for me. I can tell already (30 minutes later).

Or go vegan and avoid diabetes entirely ;)

Yeah, okay, so the tl;dr version: Cut the carbs, eat the fats. Especially if you're diabetic.

She takes TEDspeak to new levels of annoyance. Can't she just speak like normal people?
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your

they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
