California Department of Pesticide Regulation: California Tests Show Low or No Pesticide Levels in Many Fruits and Vegetables.

LA Times: Mexican cactus, Chinese ginger top list of pesticide-laced produce.

California-grown spinach and kale, which also made the list, likely was exposed to approved chemicals sprayed on adjacent crops, while the nectarines probably picked up traces from improperly cleaned packing equipment used for other fruit, Farnsworth said.

I got this from Another Reason to Go Organic: California’s Kale Has Illegal Pesticides, but I have some broader concerns: Specifically, I've seen a lot of articles recently like Mythbusting 101: Organic Farming > Conventional Agriculture which points out that:

What makes organic farming different, then? It's not the use of pesticides, it's the origin of the pesticides used. Organic pesticides are those that are derived from natural sources and processed lightly if at all before use. This is different than the current pesticides used by conventional agriculture, which are generally synthetic. ...

It is not at all clear to me that "organic" means better runoff water quality, less overspray, fewer consumed pesticides.
