Soooo... an Oakland police officer's wife commits suicide using his service weapon. Circumstances are suspicious, but he's cleared by the Alameda County coroner. Shortly thereafter he commits suicide, same weapon, and leaves a note. That note starts to unravel a whole bunch of Oakland police officers who've been having sex with a minor in exchange for not arresting her for prostitution. I mean, right there is statutory rape, but we add the coercive element and let's not mince words: A whole bunch of Oakland police officers raping a minor. Aaaand, now it's crossed the bay: *TWO DOZEN* SFPD officers under investigation.
I'm all for sex worker agency. Prostitution is the combination of sex and free enterprise, and I've got no problem with either of those. It's the illegality that exploits sex workers, and right here we have a perfect example. The young woman in question was doing what she had to to get ahead in her socioeconomic position. But the police officers should bloody well know better.
