Web Bugs??

2000-07-02 05:11:55+02 by TC 4 comments

A clever little weasly way of snooping on you. You what bothers me is this is the kind of thing being developed/invented by my peers (Gen X). The next group is going to playing around with gene sequencers manipulating bacteria & viruses. I must be getting old, because Gen Y is starting to scare me..... Hey you kids! Get off my lawn!

I'm looking at adding two things to my configuration: 1. A browser setting to block image loads based on size and source. Any 1x1 gifs can be replaced locally. Any images coming from another site should not be loaded. 2. Email rules: trash any email that contains 1x1 images - or better - just use Pine more often! I think I can accomplish all of these by modifying Squid. In fact, I bet I can write rules for Squid to block these completely! For some real fun, use Squid to send bogus data to the web-bug. For instance, always send the web-bug's home IP address for the user IP address - or always send a Microsoft IP address!

I guess I should o' been a little more clear. The comment system will use the last URL in the message as the topic URL if it isn't explicitly set.
