Homeland Security details new tools for extracting device data at US borders

The agency says it can now obtain details including your phone's location history, social media information, and photos and videos.

Yeah, crossing the border these days reminds me of visiting China with electronics: Enable password SSH into a remote machine that has credentials encrypted on it, make sure that there's a saved identity for that machine, delete any SSH keys or browser saved passwords on the devices you're carrying across the border, rebuild the system once you're across.

If I was crossing the border and up to no good I wouldn't carry any electronics with me. I'd pick up what ever I needed after the border crossing and sync whatever needed syncing on the other side.
