G Suite no longer free

Ugh: Does this mean Gmail for your own domain, too? If so, sounds like it's time to switch to something else.

I could, but my domain is hosted by a provider who is also a Tucows reseller, and they bundle everything. I don’t have direct access to the dns records. That’s convenient as they’ll update things when they change server configuration (which has happened three or four times in the past couple decades), and such. The main downside of transferring away from them is that I will need to transfer all of the services (registrar, dns, email, and web-hosting) at once.

Last time I went looking, the choices between the various registrars were between the extremes of NetSol and GoDaddy, and I couldn’t find any registrar that didn’t suck in one way or another, so I lost motivation and changed nothing. That was almost five years ago. The previous search was over a decade ago, and found the same sort of awfulness.

DaveP, can't you just change the MX record for email? Why does Fastmail have to be a registrar as well?

If you need to switch email providers, know that I’ve been very happy with Fastmail for quite a few years. Haven’t moved everything there yet (I wish they served as a registrar too, so there were fewer steps to transfer some domains), but I’m happy with what’s there.
