I order books from Copperfield's

I order books from Copperfield's because I have this feeling that bookstores are holy places that should be supported. But, especially since Ray has left, my chances of finding a book there seem pretty low.

This weekend at Petaluma Pride, Word Horde Emporium of the Weird and Fantastic had a booth, and I bought a book, and this looks like the sort of place with curation that matters.

So, my local bookstore, the Purple Fern is run by a nice lady, who seems very responsive and I would love to support her.

But! Manning the store are her two sons, neither of whom seems interested in selling a book, or even talking to customers. During my most recent visit, one of the sons spent the entire ten minutes I was in the store hiding in the back room, and didn’t appear until after I was out the door.

So after returning home, I bought the same books that I’d left on the counter at the Purple Fern from Alibris, because they’re at least not Amazon.
